Locker 56

For Thru The Trapdoor DRIL inherited an abandoned locker, a time-capsule full of kitsch memorabilia from the 70’s to the 90’s. The collective edited, reconstituted and and added objects to develop a compositional narrative of the spaces history as an open ended dioramic tomb for viewers to consider.

Cinema Obscura

Mixed-media installation, camera obscura

A site-responsive project that uses the conventions of the camera obscura, an archaic optical device that projects an inverted image of its surroundings onto a screen. DRIL has been experimenting with the obscura to develop a unique experience that hovers between the boundaries of cinema, photography and theatre; constructing a voyeuristic tool capable of providing the viewer with an intimate glimpse into an alternate reality. The obscura creates an eerie live cinema that plays with the memory and history of the objects and the space they inhabit. DRIL’s contemplative projection experience is at once recognizable and abstract in its quiet animation of a strange and fleeting environment.
